Warmer temperatures seem to finally be here!
March is a very busy month for the fourth grade! We are literally "up to our eyeballs" in lighthouses! Lat week we began the building process with covering the cardboard bases the models will be built upon , fashioning our lighthouse towers and building electrical circuits to illuminate our beacons of the Great Lakes. In addition, we are drawing and painting images of our lighthouses as well as writing fact filled poetry. We look forward to sharing all of our knowledge with you on Thursday, March 19, at the annual "Celebration of Thinking".
We are also in the midst of preparing for a field trip to the Troy Courthouse next Monday, March 16. We have been working with a team of attorneys who are sharing their legal expertise. Many of the children have chosen to take on speaking roles for the "Mock Trial" we will be conducting. While we are practicing here at school, it is important that they also practice at home as well so that they will be familiar with and comfortable speaking in front of others. The Honorable Judge Maureen McGinnis will be meeting with us as we share her court room next week. The children are encouraged to "dress the part" of their role; be that SpongeBob Squarepants, or one of the attorneys!
Finally, we are looking forward to the annual Fourth Grade Disability Awareness Day scheduled for next Tuesday, March 17. This event is held at the TSD Services Building on Livernois Rd. We will spend the morning, along with Mr. Dennis' class, experiencing what it might be like to live with a disability. There are 9-10 different centers the children will visit; each facilitated by a parent volunteer.(Thank you to those of you who have been able to volunteer your time for this very worthy event.) We will learn about a wide range of disabilities and be introduced to many adaptive devices used by those who have either temporary or permanent needs.
