Wow! The days are just flying by! We are deep into our classroom routines and our days are filled with thinking and learning!
In Math, we are embarking on a new unit that focuses on multiplication of multidigit numbers. We will be exploring several models with the goal of finding a model/straregy that works wel for each one of us. Our math magicians will be expanding their math "tool box" as they add new strategies to those they already confidently hold.
In Reading, we are delving deeper into the characters of the stories we are reading; learning how we can understand them more deeply when we allow ourselves time to think as we read.
In Writing, we are wrapping up our personal narrative writing and beginning to learn about the crafting of literary essays.
In Science, we continue our study of earth materials. understanding the difference between rocks and minerals as we begin to notice properties of minerals that help us to identify them.
In Social Studies, we are developing an understanding of the concept of "lake effect" and just how it can impact both the weather and climate of our great state of Michigan.
In Word Wisdom, our second unit is "The Earth" which fits perfectly into our science and social studies themes. We learn so much more when we can make connections across the curriculum!
In addition, we have begun our study of the lumber industry; learning its importance to pur history and getting to know the lifestyle of a lumberjack.
